Stephen Francis Vasta (S.F.V.)

STEPHEN FRANCIS VASTA, a native New Yorker, has been active for twenty years as a conductor, coach, pianist and harpsichordist. He has played and conducted operas for companies including Indianapolis Opera, Berkshire Opera, and Metro Lyric Opera, and has appeared as accompanist at Weill Recital Hall and at the Smithsonian Institution.

Equally at ease in musical theater, he has played Off-Broadway for Oh, Coward! and conducted at Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Westchester Broadway Theatre and Cape Playhouse.

Active as a music journalist since 1993, Mr. Vasta contributed surveys of symphonies by Mahler, Bruckner, Shostakovich and Vaughan Williams to Stereophile's "Building a Library" feature. Currently he is a Contributing Editor to Listener magazine, and his record reviews, feature articles, and interviews appear regularly in Opera News.
