Here are two major issues for the operatic world. The famed tenor, now at the height of his remarkable career, has made numerous recordings, and currently there are 16 superb videos in a wide range of repertory, mostly Puccini and Wagner. All of these are important and what a pleasure it is to observe this handsome tenor in performance. Vocally he shows complete control and power, and he is a fine actor as well. On this new disk he concentrates on French repertory, almost all new to the tenor's discography. He is joined by soprano Sonya Yoncheva in the two duets from Manon, and by baritone Ludovic Tezier in the famous duet from The Pearl Fishers. Throughout the fine orchestra gives such orchestral support. Complete texts and translations are provided.

Russian soprano Olga Peretyatko (b. 1980) is at the beginning of a remarkable career. She has appeared triumphantly in a wide variety of roles, particularly operas of Rossini, and was praised for her participation in a new production of Stravinsky's The Nightingale. Now she turns her attention to music of her native Russia in this collection of opera excerpts Nd songs. She is in top form, and her clear, controlled wide range is shown to great advantage.Rich support is provided by the excellent orchestra in these recordings made in July 2016 in the Great Concert Hall of Sveralovsk State Philharmony, Ekaterombiurg, Russia. Complete texts and translations are provided. The only negative element here is the relatively short playing time; easily more music could have been included And if this repertory interests you, you should investigate Anna Netrebko's remarkable disk with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra (REVIEW).
